EDNA KLEIN Newest LIFE MASTER IN UNIT #355 Edna Klein is Unit 355's latest player to achieve the Life Master Status Award. Edna
earned the last .79 gold points that she needed at the recent Regional
tournament in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Edna was partnered with her
close friend Marie Lazar in two session open pairs and finished first
in flight B & C to collect 1.79 Gold points. Edna
was born in Brooklyn, New York and lived most of her life in Queens,New
York. She worked until she retired and moved to Sedona fifteen years
ago to join her daughter, Audrey. Edna has two children, three
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren whom she adores. Her son
still resides in New Jersey so she takes frequent visits back East.
One of her grandchildren resides with her. Edna
took up bridge at her daughter's request when she moved to Sedona. She
remembers going on a cruise. She asked a friend, who was also a bridge
instructor, about playing on the cruise. Her friend, knowing Edna knew
nothing about duplicate bridge, gave her two pieces of advice. First,
when the opponents or director asked a question, to respond "Yes".
Second response is "we don't play like that where I live". The advice
worked well. In her first duplicate table, she played against the third
ranked female player in Florida. Edna was partnered with this player's
mother. The two senior women gave the younger ladies three bottom
boards. Edna doesn't want to talk about the rest of the session. After
returning to Sedona, later that same year, Edna went to the
Sedona/Prescott annual Christmas Party. Again, knowing very little
about bridge, few people wanted to play Until
recently, Edna never traveled to Regional and National bridge
tournaments so she never achieved the Gold and Silver points she needed
to become a Life Master. We congratulate Edna on earning the Life Master Award.
Marie also reached the milestone of collecting her 25 Gold
points needed for Life Master, but still needs silver.
with her. She found a partner, Joe Lawrence and came in First Place in this prestigious event.
She started on this journey, with the help of her partner,
Marie
Lazar. She also has enjoyed playing with 97 year old Beatrice Wing for
many years in the weekly Sedona games. Patricia Dodd, recent Life
Master and Regina Kramer traveled with Edna and Marie to earn the Gold
in Albuquerque.
