MIMI ESSER -

Mimi J. Esser of Sedona, Arizona, needed just 4 gold points to achieve her Life Master and subsequent Bronze Life Master at the San Diego Regional Tournament in April. She happily attained this goal, which she had set at the Las Vegas Regional in 2005.

A resident of Sedona since 1983, Mimi has mixed career and family, raising four wonderful children while being employed and volunteering for several community organizations. She took up duplicate bridge after her husband passed away in 1998.

After obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University, she taught junior high English and reading in both Scottsdale and Tucson. In 1965 she opened her own business in Phoenix, Total Concept Interior Design. In 1971, she shifted careers again to work as paralegal and office manager in her husband’s law firms in Phoenix (Sorenson, Esser & Moore) and Sedona (Esser, Bradley and Lundy).

Her community activities in Sedona include serving on the Boards of Directors of Sedona Oak Creek Chamber of Commerce, Soroptimist International of Sedona, Sedona Community Thrift Shop, Sedona Jazz on the Rocks and the Sedona Cultural Park. She is currently serving as treasurer of the ACBL Unit 355 Northern Arizona Board of Directors.

Jazz, reading and duplicate bridge are some of her favorite activities. She has made many friends playing bridge and enjoys traveling to tournaments, learning about new places and socializing with fellow players. Last year she and Francie Cody took a memorable bridge cruise with Marty Bergen, which included three hours of study each morning.

Mimi’s children are proud that their mother achieved her goal, and rewarded her at their Easter dinner with a basket of little gold-wrapped gifts.

“I could not have gotten my Life Master without the help of my partners and friends,”says Mimi, “particularly Catherine McCulloch, Marcia Stearns, and Marie LaZar.”

Our congratulations and best wishes to Mimi.
