Eugene (Gene) Snyder
Gene
Snyder of Sedona Arizona became Northern Arizona’s most recent Life
Master this past April after winning one knockout and earning a second
place in the second knockout (losing by one point) at the Mesa Senior
Regional tournament.
Eugene
was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He earned college
degrees in Pharmacy from Temple, and later a Doctoral degree in
Chemistry from the University of Chicago. He earned a Law degree from
Cal Tech Law school which supported his career in Patent Law. He lived
most of his adult life in Chicago. Gene and wife, Mary, have 4 children
who are now adults, and 3 grandchildren.
Gene
learned bridge while working as a fellow on his post-doctorate degree.
Mostly, he watched others, then began play on his own. He played bridge
competitively and gave it up several times, not playing the last 30
years before he retired.
Gene
and Mary have many interests outside of bridge. They enjoy photography,
hiking, biking, woodworking. Gene has biked many interesting locations
including Salzburg to Vienna, Banff to Jasper, Vermont (end to end),
France, and Seattle to Portland. In the Seattle to Portland journey,
Gene cycled 200 miles in 2 days on his 60th year of life.
Gene
has enjoyed many bridge partners. He wishes to Thank Ron Mohney, and
Regina Kramer of Sedona (also Life Masters the past 3 years), as well
as Joe Greene of Flagstaff for their help in earning his Life Master
goal.
