UNIT 355’s MOST RECENT LIFE MASTER – ED COWAN, Jr. of PRESCOTT

Ed Cowan of Prescott, Arizona earned 26 Master Points at the Phoenix Regional in August to achieve the ACBL Life Master status.

Ed retired in 2004, after 42 years of private dental practice in Riverside, CA and surprised his family and friends (and himself) by moving to Prescott with his wife Jeanie. They are enjoying the friendly people and unlimited activities in Prescott with its clean air and azure blue skies.

Ed began playing Duplicate Bridge in Prescott after his retirement. Ed and Terry Steinborn paired up to win two gold medals in the Prescott Senior Olympics duplicate bridge competition. Ed also won a gold medal last year in the individual golf competition.

Over the years, Ed served as president of local, state, and national dental organizations and enjoyed opportunities to participate on numerous boards, including seven years as an expert examiner for the California State Dental Board. He is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and received the Distinguished Deputy Regent Award for the USA section of the International College of Dentists in 2005.

Ed was honored by the University of California at Riverside Alumni Association’s Community Service Award and was inducted into the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame.  His sport was golf.

Ed & Jeanie are glad that they live close enough to their two children in Southern California, Kristin Peck and Ryan Cowan, to allow them to continue to get together for family events; they refer to their home in Timber Ridge as a little taste of paradise.

Ed wants to thank his many friends in Prescott, as well as his partner Bob Park, and teammates Don & Valerie Smeltzer, Connie Freeman & Al Moya in team events for his outstanding accomplishment in Phoenix. Ed very much appreciates his mentors who, during recent years, helped him to improve his understanding of the game.

Ed is a true Gentleman, and the Prescott bridge clubs as well as Unit 355 Northern Arizona is very fortunate to have him as a member.

Our Best Wishes to Ed and his family.
