Survey Results (by Linda Besnette):
We had 60 surveys turned in. Not all questions were answered on individual questionnaires; therefore, there will be discrepancies in the count from question to question. Tallies are in the mail (or will be tomorrow).
Resulst and Comments:
A. Pace of Play (Three Board Movements): 20 Minutes is Just Right (43); 21 minutes is better (14)
Comments:
- l9 minutes is best, one break is preference;
- If you follow a slow pair, they use up your break time. People who are consistently slow need
to be penalized.
- Love the clock. One break would be better than 2.
- It's ticking my life away, but useful.
- Allow more time for Howell movement.
- Why should we be different from ACBL?
B. – Pace of Play (Four Board Movements): 26 Minutes is Just Right (37); 28 Minutes is better (19);
- Allow more time for Howell.
- 27 minutes
II. Refreshments/Snacks: - Just Right (42), other (11); Comments
- All we need is coffee and cookies. It would be cheaper and easier.
- We don't need snacks. Cutting out the popcorn eating would keep cards clean longer.
- Fresh fruit (healthy snacks)
- Players can donate refreshments if they must have it. Coffee and popcorn OK.
- I'd like fewer sweets, more nutritious snacks (nuts, dried fruit)
- Voluntary.
- Would like if it there was always hot water for tea.
- Popcorn and donations (several replies like this)
- Refreshments Not necessary
- Pretty much ok. Like coffee & popcorn; don’t like candy. If someone donates food; good
III. Procedures for Director Playing: Current Procedures are ok (49); Directors should never play (4)
Comments:
- Let the Director play anytime if it prevents a sit-out. A 3 or 4 board sit-out is not desirable.
Could fewer boards in play be arranged when there is a sit out in those cases so a few people will
not be penalized a great deal and some will not be penalized at all?
- Have same rules apply if I/2 table can fill in.
- Use compassion.
- The club should always try to have a player on call.
- If a player is available and we have a half table, then I would like the director to play to
eliminate a sit out.
- Somewhere between the two options
IV. Membership Meetings: I would like a Membership meeting (11); I don’t need one (40). Comments:
-By laws should be changed-35 members not feasible. Should be 2l.
-The by-laws allow for meeting by the members if necessary. All other meetings should be called
by the elected board.
-Take a hand vote and see if anyone wants (majority, that is) a meeting.
-50% is fine.
- Periodic membership meetings (every 6 months)
V. Robb Gordon Proposal: For (32), Against (5), Don’t Care (19). Comments:
-I'm too old and stupid for more lessons. It's doing ok lately.
-I'm not sure this will work. I'd like to hear other suggestions.
-Don’t play on Tuesdays
IV. Other Comments Recommendations:
-Would like to see a long term schedule of special games.
-Robb is a wonderful director. If we can get him more often to relieve other directors.
-Put a treasurer report on bulletin board every 6 months.
-Have director of Wed/Sat games seat and collect money (or the treasurer could collect as they
did previously). There is no need to compensate anyone. Perhaps a board member with no
REAL duties could do the seating, or ask for a volunteer to seat people, (at other games).
-I really enjoy the on-line information.
-When do we get financial reports?
-Healthy snacks (fresh fruit/veggies). Love the clock. Would like only one 5 minute break.
-Less teaching at the bridge table. There is also "verbal abuse" going on in what is supposed to
be a "O" tolerance atmosphere. We recently lost another active member because of this!
-Board meetings should be preannounced so members can attend. I believe this is a state law.
-I would like more opportunities for learning while playing.
-6 Positive comments re: Board of directors--"excellent job" etc.
-One complimentary comment from visitor--amiable club, high quality players.
-Nothing should be secret except personnel problems. Full disclosure of finances.
- I just found out Tuesday’s were $7. Ok with me but not announced.
- Thanks for your hard work (several)
- It seems to me that the board should allow the expenditures to be public-including
Any item over $25 broken down as to how it is spent. All Organizations I have belonged to do
This and not do do it creates unwarranted suspicions about how money is used. I am sure all
Expenditures can be defended if questioned.
- We need beginner level games for new players. Post Financial statements with itemized expenses.
- Doing a great job! (several of these)
