Bill Black earns Bronze and Life Master award:

Bill Black recently earned the Gold points he needed to earn his Bronze and Life Master at the Chandler Regional Tournament.

Bill comes from a family of bridge players. Bill has 4 brothers and sisters. Including his mother and father, six of the seven family members are avid bridge players. Not known for humility with respect to his bridge playing skills, Bill admits that he is the third best player in his family. He says his sister and mother are better than he.

Bill remembers being introduced to bridge at the age of nine. Money bridge was the game and the family played for one tenth of a cent per point. His parents had a family owned and operated business. Bill says that one person would attend the business while the rest were upstairs with a bridge game going at all times. Bill’s family later graduated to three player bridge which is a cross of poker and bridge (also with money on the line). Knowing his family history, and the type of bridge he played as a youth, one can more fully appreciate his unorthodox playing methods (Just Kidding, Bill, you are quite good!)

Bill’s best memory of bridge was while attending College at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. He frequently skipped classes to play bridge at the student union. He still managed to graduate with a degree in Pre-Law.

Bill and wife Madonna moved to Sedona in 2005 from Southern California where they spent most of their married lives. Bill has a son in California who is a surfer and a golfer.   He has another son in Pennsylvania who is a scientist at the University of Pennsylvania. Bill and Madonna were blessed with their first grandson who arrived 12 weeks ago.

Unit 355, Northern Arizona wishes to congratulate Bill Black on achieving his Bronze and Life Master awards.
